Weismann’s story:
Kokujouji studied German before so he can talk, even though he’s not very fluent yet. He tells the others to just call him Dai if his full name proves to be too hard to pronounce.
Weismann plays lots of pranks on Kokujouji. For example, when they shook hands for the first time, Weismann’s hand fell off because he used a dummy hand. When he brought Kokujouji to see the slate, it began to emit red and blue light along with weird sounds, which sent Kokujouji into a panic. This was because Weismann set up a device to do so.
Kokujouji was reading a book in the cafeteria when Claudia approached him. He immediately knew that she was Weismann’s older sister, because of their resemblance to each other. They struck up a conversation with each other concerning the slate, and seemed to be getting along rather well.
Weismann becomes somewhat jealous of Kokujouji, who got along so well with his sister even though they’d just barely met, and decided to pull another prank on Kokujouji.
He planned to use a cat in his prank, but lost control of the cat. The cat tumbled into Kokujouji and Claudia, breaking the vase that Kokujouji held. The blood drained from both of their faces. Kokujouji was in the middle of showing the vase - which was one of a kind, and something he got from his general - to Claudia. He declares that he must commit seppuku now that the vase is broken, and deflects all attempts to stop him.
In the end, it turned out to be Kokujouji’s idea of a joke. He did this knowing that Weismann loved pranks. The story ends with all of them laughing.
we could go further than the highest heaven: Spoilers for Neko’s story in side:black&white
Neko:
Neko was a victim of the Kagutsu Crater. Her true name was never revealed, but was always written as XX. Neko has been a Strain since she was young, and she was also very clever. Clever enough to not reveal this ability of hers to anyone, all while testing out her power on various people to get an idea of how much she could do. Her father would read her the story “Wagahai wa Neko dearu”. She met a cat later on, who seemed to be immune to her abilities, surprising her.
One day, a person responsible for her mental development check-ups came to Neko and told her that she was a Strain using her powers to deceive her ‘parents’. Her ‘parents’ actually lost their child, a boy, at a very young age, and Neko filled in that gap with her ability. Neko realized what she had done, and dispelled her illusions. Her ‘parents’, now freed from Neko’s ability, called her a monster. Neko remembered the cat she had met before, and vowed to become like that cat, who could live on alone. The story ends with her saying, “Wagahai wa Neko de aru!”
